Thanks Rick, that is reassuring.  I would be interested to be put in touch with owners of similar cars in my locality - Birmingham.

Really enjoying the Aston.  They are great cars.

kind regards

simon

We see everything from high to low mileage DB9's the majority of cars we see only require general servicing and normal wear and tear items, most are lovingly looked after, buying from the dealer network will have the benefits of their warranty but this does come at a premium, and i would not consider an inspection from such as myself necessary, buying from a independent garage will also normally come with a warranty, and buying directly from an owner will normally be the cheapest and most personal as many owners are passionate about their cars but would suggest an inspection in these two cases,

Hi Simon the DB9 has a twin plate clutch where as the majority of cars only have a single plate so it will get a bit of getting used too, I would be very surprised at that mileage that is even close to needing a clutch, the car also has a carbon fibre prop so it is able to twist but can cause the vibration you are experiencing, pretty sure you will soon get the knack of it, if you still have concerns and are local I will gladly road test the vehicle, otherwise I may be able to put you in touch with an owner in your area to compare cars to put your mind at rest, pm me locality if required

Rick, Hi.

I've just bought a DB9 manual, 55 plate, with 8500 miles on the clock.  Very happy generally but I'm finding the clutch not the easiest to engage from standstill.  It engages late, which I understand to be normal.  I'm normally very good at car control but a slow, smooth start from standstill in this car eludes me at the moment. Often I over rev, or stall or experience a juddering, particularly if trying to execute a gradual up-hill standing start (in traffic).  Is this normal for the DB9 manual?  Or is it sign of a worn clutch?  Any views would be welcome.

Ironically, I brisk standing start is no problem.  It launches very nicely. Great, but that is not possible in the traffic that I usually travel in.

Kind regards

Simon

Thanks for that reply Rick, that's really good food for thought, the last thing I need is too higher maintanence, the missus will get jealous. Having given your reply then, do I take it that you would advise me to lean more to the DB9 for reliability and lower running costs , I'm not really that frightened by the impending fuel bill as I'm used to driving and owning large engined cars, I've owned V8's 3.5 and up since the age of 20, love them, however the DB9 would be my first V12. Is there anything specific I should be aware of when viewing one, and should I be better off going through a main dealer for my first purchase .

Hi and welcome to the forum, The vanquish is more costly to run and maintain than such as the DB9 and V8 Vantage, They are unusual to drive at first but you soon get the hang of it, the asm system that controls the gear changes can be problematic but preventative maintenance really helps keeping on top of the bits and pieces especially asm leaks is inportant, Parts prices are a lot more for the vanquish than the other models so must be taken into consideration, this said they are a fantastic car and will I am sure be one of the more collectable models,

Hi there everyone, I am looking to buy an Aston Martin hopefully within the next few months or at least by the end of the year. I keep looking through the classifieds and reading through forums to gain some info. I am a lover of all that is Aston, I've been a fan since early childhood, I'm sure many of you have too, and now I am within reach of attaining my dream of owning one. I was origionally looking at a DB7 Vantage , however with me being 6'6" I found it ......snug when out on a test drive, mind you most of the time only I'll be in the car, however on the odd occasion maybe wifey and 2 kids too. I've looked at the older Virage coupes , found a nice volante, have looked at DB9's but not managed to get into one yet, I've sat in the V8 Vantage and that was a big suprise, very comfy but only 2 seats, I get enough grief about my TVR Chimaera for that , BUT, and it is a big but, I keep veering towards the Vanquish, I love its lines, gorgeous curvy shape, stance and noise, it just looks so much more beefier than the newer sleeker Astons ,everytime I see one parked up next to a newer Aston it seems to overpower the DB7/ DB9,V8 Vantage, it reminds me more of the older Astons in that it projects so much more presence. I have spotted a few at the prices I can afford which is around the 45K mark most of them are '02/'03 cars, what I'd like to know is what are they like to live with and drive compared to other Astons am I going to get a good Vanquish for this price ,  what am I too look out for , what are the average servicing costs bearing in mind I won't be doing more than 5000 m per year, maybe a trip to southern Spain once a year, what are their common faults, I've heard lots about the paddle shift being problematic or not as good as other shift methods , but then I don't intend to be racing or thrashing it around constantly,  or would I be better of going for one of the others.I understand that I would need it inspected, but how good really are the AA/RAC with their inspections of such vehicles, or would you reccomend someone else, problem I have got is that I'm on a nationwide search  from the tip to toe of the British Isles and paying you a pound a mile Rick could end up costing me a small fortune LOL.
